When new in town, it sometimes difficult to understand the best way to get around. It only takes about 20 minutes to walk to the historic city centre and walk trhough it in another 20 minutes. Recently the city rolled out a mobility plan with the goal of removing cars from the centre, plus updated the cost of parking in the city centre. Therefore more and more people started using their bike or opt for using the tram and bus in and around the city. Buses and trams

Ghent’s streets are divided into different paid parking zones: red, orange, yellow and green. The cheapest zone is the green zone as this is furthest out from the centre. The most expensive (the historic city centre) is the red zone.

If you would like to understand and speak Dutch, read this article and defenitely notice the Dutch courses offered by the Ghent University. Another way to practice Dutch is with apps on your phone: DuoLingo, Memrise, Dutch BB… You will learn basic things such as numbers, which is practical if you need to order more than one beer! You can also listen to the radio, try to read comics and newspapers (maybe your horoscope will sound better in Dutch?). |
